Safeguarding
Safeguarding at The Orchard School
Child protection and safeguarding procedures are of the utmost importance at The Orchard School. We are committed to safeguarding all of our children, and we expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to take their responsibility seriously so that we can ensure our school is a safe place to learn.
We aim to ensure that:
- Appropriate action is taken in a timely manner to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.
- All staff are aware of their statutory responsibilities with respect to safeguarding.
- Staff are properly trained in recognising and reporting safeguarding issues.
There are a number of policies and procedures that contribute to safeguarding our pupils and staff. These can be viewed in the section below and are available on request.
If you have any safeguarding concerns, including historical or those regarding transport to and from school, contact Lauren Petrie (Designated Safeguarding Lead) by email at lauren.petrie@orchard.sandwell.sch.uk or call the school office on 0121 569 7040.
Operation Encompass
As an Operation Encompass School, we closely with local police to help keep our children safe and provide support. Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced, any domestic abuse.
Child Safety
Many accidents are a part of growing up. Children need to explore and experiment, but some children suffer the pain of serious accidents that can alter the course of their lives forever. Most of these serious accidents are completely preventable by making simple solutions or changes to routines. The Child Accident Prevention Trust has some information about burns and scalds, dogs, batteries and choking. They update their website regularly with up-to-date safety advice and information.
